Karl Heesemann Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG is presenting two innovations at the 15th Blechexpo in Stuttgart. The international trade fair for metalworking will take place for the 15th time from 26.-29.10.2021 and attracts visitors from all over the world to Stuttgart. Heesemann has a stand in Hall 5 and is exhibiting two metal grinding machines from the ProfiRounder series. The focus is on the two innovations KinematiQ and RUL from Heesemann, who are nominated for the Blechexpo Award and have already made it into the top 3 innovations in the area of surface treatment in advance. The prize will be awarded in cooperation between Blechnet and MM Maschinenmarkt for the most innovative exhibits on Tuesday at Blechexpo.

The software developed specifically by Heesemann called KinematiQ is able to calculate the edge rounding of any brush assembly on the basis of kinematics and thus enables the development of perfected aggregates. Because when the kinematic data of a machine are known, the intensity and uniformity of the rounding can be predicted in detail. This offers great potential in the development of new grinding units for rounding and deburring.

With KinematiQ, this was RUL-Unit developed that rounds equally intensively and evenly — uniformity with regard to the geometry of the workpiece edges and with regard to the placement on the transport belt. The RUL unit consists of 6 orbiting satellites, each of which carries a grinding flake roller 370 mm wide and 350 mm diameter. By orbiting the satellites in conjunction with their rotation around both their vertical and horizontal axes, workpieces are processed equally intensively from all directions, which no other brushing process on the market achieves. The speed of rotation, circulation and feed can be adjusted continuously. Thanks to the unique kinematics, in addition to vacuum, it is possible to use pressure rollers to fix the workpieces on the conveyor belt. This is a unique advantage, especially for long, narrow parts and warped workpieces.

Markus Lindörfer, Head of Deburring Technology at Heesemann: “Workpieces are rounded with unprecedented uniformity. No more abrasive or energy is wasted. It can also be ensured that the machines are equipped with sufficient tools to achieve very good removal rates even at high feed rates.”

Another major advantage is the low space requirement and the option of using additional pressure rollers. Pressure rollers cannot be used in classic “rotor” systems, as the diameter of the rotors is often over 1,600 mm. In addition, this makes the machines longer and also increases the processing time of the individual workpieces. With an overall length of just 1,000 mm, the RUL has very compact dimensions, and an additional pressure roller is used between the two tool tracks so that, for example, long, narrow workpieces can be held securely even when warped.

“With the new kinematics, we achieve outstanding results with homogeneous tool wear and unparalleled productivity. These innovations are not limited to the metal sheet sector, but can also be adapted for software-based process optimization in woodworking. Because one of Heesemann's stated goals is to create synergies within these two divisions and to ensure know-how transfer from which our customers in both the wood and metal sectors can benefit.”, summarizes managing director Christoph Giese.

Heesemann will be presenting the innovations at Blechexpo in Stuttgart from 26.-29.10.2021. Hall 5, stand 5503.
